The Majorera handcraftship is one of the most relevant elements within Fuerteventura's cultural heritage. Even though not very prolific, some craftsmen can be found still working according to ancient techniques. The Calados are sets of traditional fabrics partly unwoven in order to produce diverse and complex patterns. The women of Fuerteventura have a well deserved recognition for their dedicated craftsmanship. Some can still be seeen working their calados outside their homes. Since all the calados are unique pieces of art, acquiring a set of these is a good investment. The weave, wether with fabrics, thread or wool is usually used for the production of blankets, knapsacks, saddlebags... A great variety of patterns can be created following this technique, being the espiga shaped (ear) and th Pata de Gallo shaped (cock's leg) the most frequent ones. Using the cane and palm-tree craftmen create a variety of goods: baskets, hats, handbags, mats, etc... Traditional musical instruments are also made from wood. Wihtin the Fuerteventura handcraft works, pottery is probably the one more rooted back into the aboriginal origins of the islanders. The most common pieces of work are the tofios, tabajostes, vasijas(pots), hornillos (stoves), etc...
