Ermita de San José - Saint Joseph Hermitage
XVIII c. Hermitage in Tesejerague

The San José hermitage, built in the early 1700’s, is a very simple one-nave construction with a three-sided sloped roof and finished with tiles.
It has two access doors inserted in two white masonry doorframes forming a Roman Arch. The vestry is attached to the right wall and the belfry, more modern than the rest of the building, is situated on top of the main façade’s right side.
Both the hermitage and the vestry are surrounded by a recently built wall.
Inside the hermitage there is a wooden coffered ceiling and other sacred art elements such as:
• A wooden Altarpiece painted with floral motifs. The Altarpiece is divided in three parts with their corresponding vaulted niches. The one in the centre, the biggest, houses a figure of Saint Joseph, who the hermitage is named after. The other two parts of the Altarpiece show us representations of the Archangel Gabriel Annunciation to Mary and Saint Joseph’s Dream –both drawings are oil paintings on the Altarpiece’s boards. Both the Altarpiece and its decorations were made in the XVIII c.
• A XVIII c. pulpit, made in wood painted with floral motifs.
• A XVIII c. wooden sculpture of Saint Joseph.
