San Vicente Ferrer Hermitage
XVIII c. hermitage in Villaverde (La Oliva)

The “San Vicente Ferrer” hermitage is located in Villaverde (La Oliva).
It is unknown in which precise date it was built, but presumably it was constructed in the XVIII c., like most of the Majorera hermitages.
The hermitage has a single rectangular nave with a three-sloped roof covered with tiles. The vestry, which can be accessed from outside the hermitage, is attached to the left-hand wall and is connected to the hermitage with a door leading to the Altar.
The main façade is made in black masonry and crowned by a belfry.
Inside there is a wooden coffered ceiling.
The following items form part of the hermitage:
• A XVIII c sculpture made in polychromatic wood with golden fabrics.
• A XXc. sculpture made in polychromatic wood.
• A silver chalice of the XVIII c.
• A XVIII c. wooden sculpture of San Roque, made in polychromatic wood.
• A foldable cupboard shaped confessional booth made in wood.
• A baptismal font, attached to the temple’s walls. It is made in light masonry.
• A plaster image of “San Pedro” made in the 1930’s.
• A 1758 baroque style Altarpiece made in polychromatic wood. Several niches within the Altarpiece hold sculptures of the “Inmaculada Concepción”, “Santo Domingo” and “San Francisco”.
In contrast to most of Fuerteventura’s hermitages, that were placed in isolated and prominent areas, this one was originally built surrounded by the then existing buildings of Vallebrón.
