In Fuerteventura, as well as in the rest of Spain, the official and most important religion is Roman Catholic. This faith was brought by the “conquistadores” in the 1400’s. The Catholic faith and rites are the source from which many customs, “fiestas”, folk and traditional art manifestations originate.

The many churches and hermitages on the island will please both the faithful and any kind of visitor who likes being captivated by the beauty and harmony of their architecture and art items. Many religious rites and cultural events are organized in all the churches for all visitors to enjoy and participate in.

Due to the increasing and varied origin of the new residents to Fuerteventura we can now find many other religions and temples: Evangelist Church, Jehovah Witness Church, Anglican Church and Mosques. These temples are not very luxurious but do have an increasing number of followers.
